Happy Hump day, Mes Ames. How goes it?

We had a wonderful anniversary yesterday. Thank you all for all of your sweet well wishes. Time really does fly when you are having fun.

Anyhow, today I'm coming to you with a modge podge of random covid related beauty babbles.

So first up is something that I have gotten a few questions about... my nails.  Nope, they are not done.
I got so sick and tired of seeing my nails. Seriously, Decoy's nails looked better than mine.
My friend, Lee had told me how she bought glue-on acrylic's at the super market. He nails looked great. I had to copy her. Its been a week and my super market nails are going strong!   Not nad for less than $10.00
                                                                      Find them HERE

Next up.... lashes. A few weeks ago on a whim, I decided to try Neu-Lash growth serum. I figured, "What do I have to lose?"
So, they claim that it takes 4 weeks to see results. Well, they are liars! (In a great way)  These are my own lashes after 2 weeks!

No extensions, no fill ins, just my lashes with 2 coats of mascara. I'm SO impressed. I cannot wait to see what they look like after the full 4 weeks.

If you have ever used any of Ouai's hair products, you know how insanely beautiful their fragrance is.
My hubby will even comment on how good my hair smells.
Well, low and behold imagine my giddiness when I saw that now they make a perfume in that same scent!

                                                                  Find it HERE

If its ever safe to be out around other people, I'll be wearing this. Its so perfect for the warmer weather. Absolutely perfect.

So, that's all for today kids. I'm so excited, my dear friend, Glenda and I are having a "Wine and Facetime" date tonight, YAY!!

I hope you are all safe and well.

XO,
SheShe

Hello , Mes Amies! Here is a special Tuesday edition of SheShe and Shimmer!
I'm thinking that most of you won't be too interested in today's post, I get that. I won't be mad if you skip today's post any just decide to come back tomorrow.
However, this one is important to me, so here it goes.

5 Years ago today, I married this fantastic man. It was the best decision that I have ever made.
This man loves me so fiercely and completely that he has helped me grow and develop into a much better, more solid version of myself than I otherwise would ever evolved into.
This guy has always made me feel that he thinks that hes the lucky one in regards to our relationship. (Trust when I tell you , that I'm the lucky one). He has always made me feel that I'm more than "enough". Smart enough, pretty enough, ambitious enough, funny enough....  well, maybe funny enough. He always tells me that my jokes are terrible 😅😅😅.

I fully admit, that this is NOT how I expected or would want to be spending our wedding anniversary.  If you had asked me a few months ago how I'd of imagined our anniversary, it would of been something along the lines of us enjoying a nice dinner out at a fancy restaurant with a good bottle of wine. (BTW, in this scenario , I'd have fresh nails and hair.....)
However, playing the hand that we have been dealt, I'm so thankful that this is who I'm quarantined.  with. I'd of gone off the deep end by now if I didn't have him. You guys know how much of an extrovert and "people person" that I am.  Chad has been quick to try and "pick up the slack" for me.
These are scary, awful times that we are living through. Yet, I do feel so safe and protected. Him, me , our dog in our little house closed off from the rest of the world.

Our mom's are both over 70, as our a few of our neighbors.  Chad will not let them "fend for themselves". They all know to give him their grocery lists. This is no surprise to me though. This is the first person who is willing to lend a hand. Whether it be snow blowing our elderly neighbor's driveway, or helping a car load of teenagers who were broken down on the side of the road.

I have felt more love, laughter and happiness in my years with this man than I did in all of the years that I had lived before him.
I could easily go on and on. I have so many words here inside of me that express how madly I love this man and my endless gratitude for him. However, they are for him and not this public forum.

I will leave you with this though, Do not ever listen to anyone who tells you that love isn't real or that soul mates do not exist.

I love you, Chad. Happy anniversary and here's to a lifetime more <3 p="">

How To Hide Your Roots

April 27, 2020 in

Hello, Mes Amies. How are you doing? This is the start of week 900th of quarantine, right? Its only been 40 days? The hell you say.
Anyhow, its been awhile since the salons were open. If you are one of these people who can say " It doesn't matter, I don't see anyone." Welp, I applaud you. I look in the mirror and see my new growth as vividly as a flashing neon sign. Its driving me nuts.
If you are in the same mindset that I am, this post is for you. Over the last few weeks, I've picked up a few tips and tricks to make these roots less glaring.

1) Change You Part

Obviously, a side part will make your roots obvious. This goes deeper than that tough.
When you part your hair in the same way, it looses volume along your part over time. Changing the side that part your har on will give you new found volume. This, will make your roots noticeable less visible. This also leads us to the next tip...

2) Add Volume To Your Crown

When your roots are not lying flat against scalp , the difference in color is not anywhere near as obvious.
When you are drying your hair, put a little mousse in at the crown. Then, place a few Velcro rollers in for 10-15 minutes.

3) Do a Headband Style Braid

This has become my default style as of late. You take a 2 or so inch of hair just over one ear. Braid it, then pin the tail behind the other ear. The colored hair of your braid covers the new growth of your roots.

4) Be Thankful That Head Bands Are Back In Style

                                                Handmade Headband

A cute, stretchy headband will not only keep your hair off of your face, but it also will hide that new growth quite well.

5) Go Retro With A Headscarf

I the 1950's & 1960's ladies wearing headscarf were VERY common place. Back then, you had to "get your hair set" at the Beauty parlor". They would wash your hair, put in rollers and sit you under a dryer. Most women went in for this service once per week.   In between visits, the name of the game was preserving your 'do. Ladies would don a head scarf to protect their style from the rain, wind and the breeze from driving around in their big 'ol convertibles.
When the 1970's came around, heat styling became the norm. If your hair got ruined in the rain today, who cares? You'd just get your curling iron out again tomorrow morning. Thus, the head scarf fell out of style.
Seriously though... look at how glamorous Marilyn, Sophia, Bridgette and Audrey look in these scarfs!
I have a scarf of my Nana's at home. She used it as a head scarf.  To pay homage to her(and to hide my 2.5 inch roots) I'm going to try this .

How bad are your roots right now? Mine are looong. My one saving grace is that my highlighted color isn't too far off from my natural color. Truthfully, the worst part about my new growth is that I'm seeing just how many grays I have. Hint, its over 1/2 of my head.

That's it for today. Chin up, Mes Amies and lots of hugs.

XO,
SheShe

Hello, Mes Amies. Happy Friday. How are you all doing today?
The week before last, I snapped this picture. I loved the chalk art  and wanted a photo on front of  Please pardon my roots. I DO have a hair appointment for Early May. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it will safe for the salons to open back up then. Every stylist that I know is so eager to get back to work.
Anyhow, when I did post this photo, I received so many nice compliments on my makeup. I'm not kidding you when I say that this was a 5-7 minute makeup application, start to finish.

For this, I used Urban Decay's "Naked Reloaded" palette, which I picked up on Sephora for $22.00. I'm sure that this means its being discontinued. Their "Naked" palettes used to be something that you could be sure you'd be able to get with certainty. Now, it seems as if they change them out every month. I digress...

I like this palette quite a bit. You get quite a bit of color pay off from each shade.

For this quick and easy look,  I stared with the shade "Bribe". I applied it with a fluffy brush all the way from my lash line up to my brows.

Next, I took a medium shader brush and applied the shade "Buck" from the lash line to just ever so slightly above my crease.

Then, I took a small, angled brush and darken up my outer V with the shade "End Game".

After that, I followed up with some concealer. My dark under eye circle game is STRONG. I used NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer  Find It Here

I decided to put on a coat of mascara and eyeliner too. In my humble opinion, these are the two products that make the most difference. I know that I could skip the eye shadow all together, if need be. So long as I have mascara and eyeliner, I can get myself somewhat together.

I'm willing to bet the farm that you guys are seriously tired of hearing about me talking about this IT Cosmetics Lash Blowout Mascara. It IS Amazing though, just saying!  Find It HERE
The eyeliner is another one that I've blabbed on and on about.  Find It HERE

I was feeling a bit ambitious on this day. Also, I had received a new foundation that I was excited to try out.
I thought that I had snapped a picture of it to show you guys. However, my camera roll tells me differently.
Regardless, it was "Bye-Bye Lines" Foundation , by IT Cosmetics Find it HERE

Lastly, I needed a touch of color in my cheeks to "liven up" my complexion.

I used one of my favorite spring blush shades, Sunbasque by MAC  Find it HERE

And that Mes Amies, is all she wrote!

Have you been putting makeup on during this? I'll be honest with you. i only lasted about a week or so being completely makeup free. I missed playing with it.

Okay, stay healthy and well. remember , with the passing of each day, we are closer to this all being in the past . <3 p="">

XO,
SheShe

Happy hump day, Mes Amies.
Did y'all take my little pep talk on Monday to heart? If you are ready to get back to eating nourishing meals, today's post is for you!

This is one of Chad and my favorite week night dinners.  It's super yummy, super easy to make and is very nutritious. If you skip the pasta, its low carb as well.
I know that when I'm looking up a recipe, it drives me crazy when there is a long, drawn out explanation before the recipe. So, lets get straight to it!

Creamy Chicken Pasta Florentine

  • 1 pound linguini
  • Salt
  • 4 whole boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size slices
  • Ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream, more if needed.
  • 1C dry white wine ( I like Sauvignon Blanch for this, but Pinot Gregio and Chardonnay work well too)
  • 1 bag baby spinach
  • 2 cups grape tomatoes, halved lengthwise
  • 6 ounces Parmesan, shaved with a cheese grater or vegetable peeler, plus more for serving

Directions

  • 1       Cook the pasta according to package directions in salted water. Drain and set aside.

2
  • 2        Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper. Heat the butter and olive oil over high heat in a large skillet. Add the chicken chunks in a single layer and do not stir for a minute or two in order to allow the chicken to brown on the first side. Flip the chicken and brown on the other side. Cook until done, and then remove the chicken from the skillet. (About 3-4 minutes per side)
  • 3        Turn the heat to medium. Add the garlic and quickly stir to avoid burning. After about 30 seconds, pour in the cream and wine, stirring to deglaze the skillet. Add in the tomatoes and most of the Parmesan. Allow the liquid to bubble up and the cheese to melt, and then continue cooking until it's reduced by at least half (most of the surface of the liquid should be bubbling at this point).
  • 4        Turn off the heat. Add the spinach,  chicken, cooked pasta and Parmesan shavings to the skillet. Toss to combine; the spinach will wilt as you toss everything.
  • 5        Add more Parmesan shavings and serve immediately!

There you have it. One pan 30 minutes or so start to finish.
Enjoy !!

XO,
SheShe

Happy Friday, my Friends.
It's the birthday of an AMAZING woman. My oldest friend (length of friendship, not her age!) , Misty.
I want to celebrate her today. Everything is closed and we are all locked down. So, for now this post will have to suffice. Although, when life is back to normal, she's getting dinner out and a bottle of the good wine.

Misty is a nurse. As if that wasn't special enough, she's a nurse to those who are the highest risk of this terror we know as Covid-19.
While the rest of the world gets to "socially distance" on the comfort of their couch with Netflix, Misty is working 18 hour shifts caring for the elderly. She misses her hubby, Matt and their two precious boys. She is so scared that she might bring this scourge home to them. Yet, day and night in and out, she puts on her scrubs and takes care of business.

This lady has more compassion than I have ever witnessed.  When she was in nursing school, she was assigned to be at a local nursing home for a semester. I had a very sweet, placid dog who I'd bring in to visit the patients. I saw first hand how loving and devoted she was to each and every one of them.

Speaking of devoted...this girl flew 2700 miles to my destination wedding. She was 7 months pregnant with her 18 month old in tow. Before that though, she held me, cried with me and forced me to have a good time when I was dealing with all the hard parts of being in a long distance relationship. She never judged or told me that she was sick of hearing about it. She was always the first to remind me that when real, true love is involved, it will overcome EVERYTHING, including distance. (She was right you know, remember that everyone)

Aside from being a better friend than one could dream of having, she is a loving partner, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and boss.
When facial masks became impossible to acquire, Misty (and Matt) bought a sewing machine and learned how to sew masks. She was not going to leave her staff unprotected.

She's one of those rare, special people who is just as beautiful on the inside as she is the outside.
I can honestly and emphatically tell you all that this world is a better place because Misty is in it.

Misty, (and I know that she is reading this, shes that amazing supportive friend.) I don't know when all of this will be over. But when it is, we will have gotten through it due to your hard work and selfless sacrifices.  We WILL celebrate and yes, "There will be wine involved".
I love you.

5 Minute Face Fresh Up

April 15, 2020 in

Hi there, in case you'd lost track, today is Wednesday.  I know, it's all one big blur. This is not how I envisioned spring of 2020. This is not how ANYONE envisioned spring of 2020.
One happy distraction that I've had has been reading all of my favorite blogs.
I have learned (the hard way) that I have to keep some sort of a routine.  So, when I saw Cassie from "Hi Sugarplum!' put up This Post a couple of weeks ago, it spoke to me! She inspired me (as she has countless times before) to really think about my quick & easy quarantine face. No winged liner, no contour....just the few things that I can throw on to look and feel more like me.
Cassie featured a 3 minute face on her post. Mine is more 5-7 minutes.
For fun, a couple of time I did a "full face". It was fun while I was was doing it. However, it ended up reminding me that I literally had no where to go. In the end, that left me feeling crummy.
I've realized that a minimum bit of makeup is good. Just enough to help feel a bit more together.
This is my streamlined beauty routine. I'd love to hear about yours.

The first thing I use is Clinique's 1.0  Clarifying LotionFind It Here

Before I do anything, I wipe this on my face. It gets rid of any dirt or oil that's on my skin.
I use the 1.0 version because my skin is very dry.
However, there are different formulas for different skin tones.

Then, it's time to moisturize.  Again, my skin is VERY dry, so I use a heavy moisturizer. Right now, I'm loving Clinique's 72 Hour Moisture Surge   Find It Here

As of writing this, this product has almost 800 5-STAR reviews on Sephora's web site. Its so good.

After that, I use another Clinique product to a quick, light lining of my eyes. Their Quick Liner is perfect for a quick and easy application .   Find It Here
A little bit of this on my top and bottom lash line makes for a world of difference.

I used this in conjunction with Benefit's Roller Eye Bright PenciFind It Here

I have talked about this little wonder product before Read It Here .
I've never before knew of a product that didn't look like you were wearing it, yet it makes allllllll the difference.

Now, we are moving on from Clinique (but clearly, I DO love Clinique).  I ever so slightly enhance my brows with Urban Decay's Brow Blade  Find It Here

Getting my brows microbladed was one of the BEST beauty investments that I have ever made. It has been such a time saver. I do still go over them lightly with Urban Decay's Brow Blade.

I had a coat or two of my ALL time favorite mascara, IT Blowout Mascara  Find It Here

This stuff, I cannot stress how much I love it. Its $25 and worth every cent.  You'll want to extend the life of your mascara. To learn how to do that, Read Here

Most days, my dark circles are in full force. This is the best weapon in my arsenal.  Its Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat Brightening Pen    Find It Here

This isn't some heavy, baking/contouring concealer. This looks like skin, albeit skin that does not have dark circles.

Lastly, I'll put on a dab of blush. A little bit of pink in the cheeks makes me feel more "healthy" looking. Again, we are back to Clinique, namely their Color Pop Blush Find It Here

Just a little bit makes me look and feel better.

Start to finish, this routine takes no longer than 5 or so minutes.

What is your makeup routine nowadays? I'd love to know.

SheShe

April Absolutes

April 13, 2020 in

Welcome to a new week, babes.  How are you all doing? I know...these are very, very scary times  :(
I don't know about you, but I personally know a few people who are sick with this awful scourge. I worry horribly about my mom and mother-in-law who's age bracket alone makes them more at risk.  I worry about my neighbor's 3 teenage children, all of which work at the grocery store.
I find myself being scared and angry when I look at where I live on the Plymouth waterfront and see large groups of people "hanging out" together. Please people, do not congregate. It's not safe. Even if you are outside.

Normally, I do a round up of the things that I'm loving each month. I share my picks of what you might want to snag for yourselves as well.  (If you are board, you can read some of those Here , Here , Here , Here , Here , Here , Here , Here and Here )
This month, things are different. First off, I do not want to encourage anyone to do ANY unnecessary spending. That would be flat out reckless at this point. Also, Fed-Ex, UPS and USPS drivers are already taxed as is. Those guys (and ladies) are at a higher risk for getting sick as is, I'm not going to add to that. Plus, many people have necessities on order. I do not want someone to have their medicine, pet food or diapers not arrive on time because a makeup palette that I ordered got the last spot on the delivery truck.
That said, there are a few things I'm absolutely going to recommend that you "get" this month. Girl, these are the things that I'm going to "get" for myself as well.

Get out for several walks each week

Keeping moving is SO important. When the gym 1st closed, I realized my sleep was taking a serious hit. Without exercise, I was sleeping very lightly and waking up repeatedly through the night.
Getting out for a walk is good exercise. Even more importantly though, the sunshine and fresh air relieves stress.

Speaking of sunshine.... Get up and watch the sunrise

I get it, you don't need to get up early enough to commute to work or get your little ones ready for school. So, you end up staying up later than normal, you sleep in later than normal.
Getting up early onto its self will make you feel like you have "accomplished" something.  The sunrise is metaphoric as well. No matter how dark the time before was, the light will come again and penetrate through.

Turn the news off

This has been a BIGGIE for me. I watch the Covid coverage for a half hour in the morning, then for another half hour at night.
Where I am working from home, I had been leaving the news on all day. That raised my stress exponentially.  Its very important to stay current on this awful situation. However, there is no gains made by listening to it all day everyday.

Keep a routine

Its so easy to feel as if you have no direction. Its so easy to feel as if you have no purpose. I know that I was feeling this way.
When these feelings strike, you need to go back to a time when you were feeling as if you had a purpose. "Reverse engineer" What you were doing then to get back to feeling that way now. I'm guessing that you got up early each day, showered, got dressed and set out to accomplish what needed to be done. You can and still SHOULD be doing that.

Each and every night, write out at least 5 things which you are grateful for

This just might be the most important thing of all.
It's SO easy to focus on what is wrong and going badly. Its so easy to ruminate on everything which is going wrong.
You have to adjust your lens to take it what is going WELL. Actually write out at least 5 things from that day which you are thankful, 10 is even better. Writing them down makes it 'click' more than just saying them. It doesn't matter how "small" these things might seem, jot them down. Here is my very list from yesterday.

1. The 1st sleep on fresh sheets
2. Taking a walk w/Chad & Decoy
3.Facetimeing W/ Anita
4. My tulips are starting to bloom
5. Our takeout dinner from a local favorite restaurant
6. The 90's HipHop Pandora station
7. I'm HEALTHY STILL
8. My Family is HEALTHY STILL
9. I gave myself a bomb sunless tan
10. My Nespresso lattes

I hope that this gives you a bit of insight and hope. We really will get through this.
We MUST be good to one and other though. Put politics aside for now,l put pettiness, envy and hostility aside for now. Realize that right now, we are all far more alike then we have ever been before.
If you have anything that might help others to lift their spirits, PLEASE share.

XO,
SheShe

The Friday Five

April 10, 2020 in

Hey there, Mes Amies, happy Friday.
Here we are almost at the 1/2 point of April. times flies when you are quarantined, huh?  Are you all doing okay? Not only physically, but how is your mental health holding up?
I saw that today's Friday Five was about happiness, something we all need now. So, I wanted to partake. As always, I want to see your answers too! You can put them in the comments, link up to your blog or message them to me.

1. What happy makes you the happiest when you see it?

Dogs, Obviously. Dogs's make me the happiest. Dogs are God's most perfect work!

2. What song always makes you feel better?

This is an easy one! Happy By Pharrell Williams

3. Do you enjoy making people laugh or are you more afraid of them laughing at you?

I like to tell jokes and make people laugh. As for being afraid to be 'laughed at'...when I was a teenager I cared about that stuff. As an adult, I couldn't be less affected by that stuff.

4. Have you ever been called ‘The Life of the Party’ and for good reason?

Many ,many times. while I'm not one to have any "parlor tricks", I do circle the room and try to talk to and socialize with pretty much everyone.

5. Do tee shirts and bumper stickers make you laugh?

Nah, not really. Most of the time I roll my eyes at that stuff.
Sorry, I know....buzz kill.

So, that is it.
What about you? Let me know what your answers are.

Stay in and be well , mes amies.

XO,
SheShe
