Tonight, we're going to party like it's Two-Oh-One-Nine

Hello and happy New Years, my friends.
How is this day 365 or 365? like they say, "Don't blink".
I'll happily be at home tonight with my hubby and dogs. I remember exactly a decade ago. I had a sinus infection in the days leading up to New Years Eve. The possibility of not being well enough to go out was so upsetting to me. Oh, how the times have changed.

I'm not one for "resolutions" . Resolutions come across as far too cliche` to me. I feel that each year requires us to grow and that we should end each year more developed than how we were when we started it. ( This is as "deep" as this makeup blog will get!). Leading up to New Years day, I plan out "Intentions" which will encourage that growth.  Last year, I decided that I'd see more sun rises than I missed. I know that I had to be more specific to make it stick. so, I said that I'd see at least 20 sunrises a month. I'll tell you friends, this one was a game changer. In the summer months, the sun rises at 5:00 am. Since June, I've been getting up at 4:55 am. The amount that I can get accomplished at that time is astounding. The rest (most of) the world is still sleeping at that time. There is nobody around to disturb me. I'll never go back to sleeping in.

Without further blabbering, here are my growth intentions for 2019......

1. Stop holding on to clothes/shoes/makeup that I no longer wear
I'll be the first to admit, I purchase a lot of clothing #dink.  However, I don't get rid of stuff anywhere near as frequently as I should. While I love having lots of clothes, I don't like having clutter. I don't like having things sitting untouched for season after season when they could be put to good use by someone who needs them.

2. Have Friends over for dinner more often
This one is a no-brainer. I love to cook. I love to have people over. ( I hope you are reading this, Glenda!) I love making my friends feel as they are worthy of having someone make them a meal and make a fuss over them. Plus, recipes are so much more fun to make, when you are making them for a crowd.

3. Lean to drink my coffee black.
I know.... I know, I'm "supposed to say" that I plan on "cutting back" on coffee. However, I have 0 desire for that! I don't smoke, I might have 1-2 glasses of wine a month at MOST. Coffee is my "vice' of choice and I'm NOT parting with it. Plus, what makes it "bad" is the stuff we add into it. All the sugars and cream. I figure , if I can eliminate that stuff, I'll be golden (and energized!)

4. Use my flat iron one time per month or less
And here is the superficial one! Superficial, but necessary. I FINALLY have my hair healthy and growing! (Thank you, Kathleen!!) The most surefire way to ruin all of this is to go back to running 450 degrees of glowing hot ceramic on it.  Nope. No more. No breakage in 2019 and beyond!

Okay, So now its the part where you think of what your intentions for 2019 are. I'd love to hear them.

Have fun tonight my loves, but be SAFE. I want to see 2019 be your best year yet, with SO many more to come.

Company Christmas Party Clothes

Happy Monday everyone!
Did everyone have a good weekend?  I just LOVE this time of year. It seems as if there is a party or gathering every single weekend. Extroverted 'ol me lives for that!
On Saturday, we had my company Christmas party. We had it at a restaurant that was built in 1734. If only those walls could talk!

I had put on to Instagram an outfit picture of what I wore. (I'm trying to get my IG linked here to this new blog layout #staytuned #technicaldifficulties #imnotgoodatthisstuff).
Anyhow, it got me to thinking about how much fun it is to get dressed up for events like this.
I know, I know..plenty of you are groaning now and saying something along the lines of "I hate shopping" or " Just let me stay in my yoga pants!"  Getting dressed up really can be fun though, I promise.

I've said this before, but horrors of horror..I'm over 30 and wear rompers #lockmeup.  I recently have even been dipping my toe into the waters of jumpsuit territory. For those of you asking "What's the difference between a romper and a jumpsuit?" The answer is that a romper has shorts, a jumpsuit has pants.
What I like about going the route of the jumpsuit is, the ease of it all. You thrown on one garment and you are dressed. No wondering "Does this go with that?". Plus, a one piece number ( This applies to dresses as well!) can get you out the door fast, if you are in a time crunch.
If you are considering trying out a jumpsuit, let me suggest the clothing retailer Venus. Venus Clothing
Venus was known first for their bathing suits originally. Now , they have the whole 9 yards...clothes, jewelry, shoes etc.
Venus sends out old school catalogs (along with having a web page). It's nostalgic. It reminds me of being a teenager in the late 90's and being excited to see what catalogs had come in the mail as soon as I'd get home from school.

This is the actual jumpsuit that I wore. It was only $29.00!!!!   Jumpsuit

Check out the open-ish detailing on the legs ( arms as well)

Because of this, I'm thinking that this will be in year round rotation.

To me, nothing looks better with black, than leopard. Back over the summer I bought these Louise et Cie pumps at Nordstrom during this year's anniversary sale. Like always though, the good stuff at the anniversary sale sells out FAST. Sadly, these are no longer available.

Keeping with the leopard theme, I used my ClareV  flat clutch. This one sold out in a hot minute. However, this very similar one is still in stock.    ClareV leopard clutch

The necklace is from JCrew and is now on a SERIOUS sale  Multi strand pearls

PS: In this posts cover photo, I don't have a sunburn. When creating the "Blog graphic" this template came with a filter. A filter I was unsure as how to remove. Plus, there is a part of me that doesn't mind looking not so Casper-ish right now. Even if its only make believe!

So, That's it for me today. I hope this last full week before Christmas is wonderful to everyone!
Do you like getting dressed up? Or, are you happiest when you are on your comfy cozies? Tell me!

What to ask for this Christmas

Hello my friends!
"Now, the calendar is just one page, and of course I am excited."
Boy, this year has flown and now we are in the throws of the Christmas/ Hanukkah season.
I'm a big believer in the "Done by December 1" philosophy for Christmas shopping.
I love shopping for everyone else. Its a great feeling to give someone something that you know they either really wanted or could really use.

The trouble for me is when the tables are turned. When someone says "Sheila, what would you like for Christmas?" I shrug and say "Um...I dunno".

I think this is true for a lot of people. I put my thinking cap on and thought back to things that I have asked for in the past (or am asking for this year) that have served me well. Hopefully, this might help you out! Don't think there is some type of glory in telling people "Don't get me anything!"If someone wants to buy you a gift, don't be a jerk and make it unnecessarily hard on them by making them try to guess as to what to get you.

Below are my suggestions. Like I said I have either asked for these things in recent years or are asking for them this year. Also, if you have any suggestions, please do share! I'm all ears!!

With no further ado.......

  1.  A vineyard Vines Shep Shirt
  2. A pair of LL Bean Duck shoes or boots
  3. A Tory Burch Tote

  1. A designer key fob
  2. Ugg Slippers ( Now available in Faux fur as well as the traditional genuine shearing)
  3.  A cozy winter beanie

  1. A full set of quality cosmetic brushes
  2. A designer belt
  3. Hunter rain boots

  1. A Starbucks gift card
  2. Classic gold hoop earrings
  3. A luxury hair mask

  1. A new perfume
  2. A Clarisonic facial brush
  3. A JCrew vest
Okay, That;s it for me today. I hope this post gets your wheels turning and helps you think of somethings that you'd like to get this year.
Like I said, don't play the martyr and refuse to give folks suggestions of what you'd like. I know I feel so much better when I know that I am getting someone something I'm certain they want. Its SO much better than trying to wing it and hope you get something they'd like!!

Most importantly though, be sure to take the time to relax and reflect this season. This is a time of love and joy. Don't cause yourself (or anyone else) unnecessary stress.
when all is said and done, what makes Christmas so wonderful is not the giving or the getting. Its the loving.

All about dipped nails

Hello friends!
Sorry it's been a hot minute. We had a scare with one of dogs, my precious Bandit. He had a lump that had to be removed and we were waiting for the pathology to come back...it was a LONG 11 days. Thank God, hes going to be just fine!

Anyhow, I thought today would be a good time to talk about "Dipped" nails. Its a topic that I get asked about frequently.

Flash back to November of 2010. My husband( boyfriend at the time) was in Kansas City for work, so I came out to spend Thanksgiving with him.  The Friday after Thanksgiving, he had to work a 1/2 day, so I had some time to spend...of course, I found the nail salon. It was the first time I tried a gel (they called it shellac at the time). I loved it, and thought it was great. Gel manis became my go to.

The years past, and the bloom came off the rose so to speak. I'd noticed how if my hands were in water for a period of time , the gel polish would start to "lift". I'd notice how if the nail tech applied the gel too thick, it would come right off. Also, I was never crazy about having to place my hands under the UV light for the polish to "cure". No thanks to skin cancer and premature aging.
Enter in the dipped manicure. Its a long (longer than dipped) lasting manicure with no harmful UV rays.Personally, I've been doing nothing but dipped manicures since October of 2017. People are intrigued by this and I get more than a few questions. I figured it would be helpful to address the questions that I most commonly get , point by point. For this info, I consulted with my a certified, licensed in the commonwealth nail technician.

  • Dipped nails are NOT acrylic nails.

This is a rumor I have seen for awhile now. People see the powder and think back to the days of acrylic powder being applied with a brush  to overlay a nail tip.
With dipped nails, your nail is dipped directly into a colored powder. You certainly could apply a tip to your nail for added length with dipped nails. However, unlike acrylic nails, there is no drilling involved.

  • Your dipped mani will last 3+ weeks if you choose

Much unlike traditional manicures, gel manicures and acrylics, you will not need to be at the salon every two weeks on the dot (unless you choose to!). I currently have a dark brown dipped manicure which is 4  weeks old. I'm going to the salon later today because I'm tired of this color and have some new growth. However, my mani is unchiped, unfaded and still shinny.

  • If you want to grow your nails long, this is how to do it

Dipped nails make your nails as close to unbreakable as can be. Even those of us who have the thinnest, weakest nails, will have super strong nails. If you look at the bottom right photo above, you'll see how long my nails are. Without dipped nails, this would of NEVER happened. My nails would grow a tiny  bit, then break. With a dipped manicure, your nails are fortified and protected from all of the external factors which can weaken them.

  • There is no drying time/ No UV lights involved

Your nails are never "wet". Therefore, there is nothing that can smudge or smear. There are no harmful UV lamps involved. "Nuff said!"

  • Unlike gel manicures dipped manicures will not weaken your nails even when the polish is off.

I'm sure someone, somewhere will argue with me on this point. However, I stand by it fully.
After our last vacation, I just could not get in to get a mani. I was far too busy playing catch up. So,I went a good 3 weeks with 'naked nails'. I noticed how strong my nails felt. They were smooth, and oh so healthy. I asked the nail professional who helped me with this post and she concurred. "There is nothing about the dipping process when done correctly which compromise the nail or the nail bed."

  • Removal of dipped "polish" is a breeze.

No drills, no scraping. Your nail tech will wrap your nails in an acetone remover. After several minutes, it will literally wipe off. It's that easy!

I cannot speak to what salons in other areas charge. Where I live and the salon that I go to , a dipped mani is $3.00 more than a gel manicure. To me, its beyond worth it.
I know that we are all different and have different preferences. If you have been curious about dipped nails, I'd encourage you to try it, at least once.

If you have any questions that I did not cover in this post , feel free to message me!

Shimmer on!

Getting my makeup done by a "Hollywood" pro

I like to think that I know a thing or two about makeup. That;s why I started this humble little blog.
I know what brands are killing it, which are overrated, I know what will cover dark purple under-eye circles, I know what color shadow will make your baby blue eyes pop.
However, this is not the same as being a MUA. That is an entirely different animal. That takes schooling, apprenticeships and licensing as just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm "Rouge" at Sephora, that means #theytakeallmymoney that I can get free, unlimited makeup application's in store,  Mostly, I only tend to take advantage of this perk is when I'm on vacation. I love to go and get a makeover before my hubby and I go to a nice dinner.

This past trip was no different....or so I thought. Enter in Victorio. Victorio has been a professional MUA for 37 years. Up until this past year, he was based in Hollywood. Recently, he moved to Vegas to semi retire. He still does famous clients when and if he feels like it. For example, the Sunday following when I was there, he was doing Michelle Obama's makeup.

I didn't give him any direction, or ask him for any particular look. I figured "This man is an artist...he has carte blanche"

He did things that I'd of never had the nerve to try. For example, he used a red metallic eyeshadow on my bottom lash line. Red metallic shadow! That is something that I’d of never tried on my own. Also, he lined my eyes all the way around with a thick black liner. Again, something I’d of never tried on my own. I’ve seen too much #blacklinergonebad . However , seeing it done right was fantastic!

My favorite trick that he taught me was in regards to false eye lashes.  Victorio cut the outter corner off from the strip lashes. Then , he glued them back on. He essentially doubled up the outer corner of the lashes.   (See bottom photo in the graphic at the top of this page.)
I could not believe the finished product when he was done. I kept asking “Is this me?” . It really drove home what I’ve been preaching for years ... “makeup is the great equalizer”. It’s really true. When you see photos of celebrities without makeup, you really see it. They don’t look bad, I’m not saying anyone looks bad.  They look normal like the rest of us.   I guess what I’m trying to drive home is that all of us can be “beautiful” , “stunning” etc.  Nobody is “ugly”. Nobody is “unattractive”. If you get to feeling as if you are, you are wrong. If you get to feeling as if you don’t look good, that’s just your inner voice lying to you.
Sometimes , it just takes a fresh eye who sees your face as a blank canvas and create something lovely.

Even if you are not a member of Sephora’s Rouge program, you can still get your makeup done by one of their pros. You’ll typically will pay a small fee or purchase the equivalent amount in products. I STRONGLY recommend going that route. If you are going to spend money, you might as well get products to take home. Try it sometime. You might just love how you look!

Ankle Booties for Fall '18

Hi There! I hope everyone is starting this Monday happy and refreshed after having a great weekend.
Here in New England, this fall is a tad later than it normally is. I was looking back at my "Facebook memories". The past two years, we were in some pretty spectacular foliage right about now. This year, everything is mostly still green. We are just starting to see splashes of red, yellow and orange here and there. Its just been too warm so far to entice the leave to put on their show.
Its actually been really warm. Today is in the mid 70's, tomorrow might be 80 and we've yet to hit 50. That's a record.
Anyhow, while getting dressed the past few days I was thinking how its far too warm to wear boots and its too October to wear sandals #missmymillers. Enter in the ankle boot to save the day. The way to be dressed and not get heat stroke and still not look confused as to which hemisphere you actually reside in.

I'm going to list out here the booties which I have purchased for myself this season. These 5 pair will cover all of my bases . I highly recommend each of these. I'm already wearing and LOVING each of these.

1)   Louise et Cie's Sonya bootie       Sonya Bootie

These are my FAVORITE! Best booties I've ever bough! The are comfortable, the right height and they are so stylish. I like to pair these with my black leather moto jacket. These are the boots that compel people to stop to ask you where you got them.

2) Puzzle Sock bootie Charles by Charles David   Sock Bootie

Comfort, comfort, comfort. Those are the first three attributes about these. They are almost TOO comfortable. Yet, they are a work horse. They look great with jeans, under dress slacks too. I'm trying to think of if I have any friends who are going to be in the later stages of pregnancy this winter. If so, I'd consider gifting them a pair of these. They pull on and stretch.

3) Bristy by Vinve Camuto      Bristy Boot

Here is another one that sparks the question "Where did you get those shoes!?" The block style heel along with the elasticated side makes them very comfortable. The leather is smooth and rich.  I like to wear these with jeans and a leopard print belt.

4) The Teddi Boot by Jessica Simpson   Teddi Bootie

You need a nude bootie in your bullpen. They are ideal for if you are wearing blue or are just tired of black ( I start getting this way toward Feb/March). These ones here were a steal, under $60.00. They look great dressed down or dressed up. The patent easily wipes clean. That is important if like me , you live in a place where a lot of ice melt is used.

5) Bibbiana Bootie by Geox   Bibbiana Bootie

Geox was the main competition to the company that I worked for, for 7 years. After purchasing these, I see why the competition was so fierce. Geox is an Italian brand that creates shoes that are SO well made. This suede is thick and soft. Its my expectation that I'll still be wearing these boots 5 years from now. That really are that well made. I
If you live in a snowy environment like I do, be sure to save your suede footwear for when the ground is free of snow and salt!

So, this is the bootie collection which I have added to my fall winter wardrobe.
I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Autumn Beauty things that I get excited about.

Happy Friday friends! Happy rainy Friday if you are here in New England.

So, Monday is October first #howdidthathappen . I know that I'm supposed to #lovefall. Its what Instagram tells me. I'm supposed to love cool nights, hoodies and camp fires. Well, I guess I failed. I don't love any of that. What I DO love is summer. I love 5:00 am sun rises, 90 degree days and the scent of Coconut sunscreen. However, summer is over for this year. Whining will not change that. In regards to my beauty routine, there ARE some things that I truly look forward to. So, for the sake of staying in a positive mindset, let's live there for a tad!

1) Good hair weather
The humidity is mostly gone at this point. That means that the frizz is gone as well. It's so much easier to style/blow out hair now.

2) Dark Mani/Pedi's

All spring and summer long, I do light nudes on my hands and brights such as coral and fuchsia on my toes.
Once the air gets its chill, I take that as my cue to switch over to shades such as OPI's "Lincoln Park After Dark." I don't know why, but I've always gravitated toward these shades.

3) No more time or money spent on sunless tanning
I've made no secret about the fact that I am a sunless tan devotee. Starting in late March, I sunless tan 2-3 per week for the entire season. (To read more about that, click HereHere ). Like I have said before though, if you ARE going to sunless tan, its a time investment. Each time I do it, its a 20-30 minute process. I'm happy to be free of that for now.

4) No more worrying about makeup sweating or smearing off.
Its inevitable , when the mercury hits 90+ ( or lower) you'll sweat. For sure some cosmetics do a better job of standing up to the summer weather than others (A post for next spring perhaps??) . Regardless though, June- September I find myself having my makeup being a causality to the summer heat. I'm happy to not deal with any of that for a few months.

That's it for today. I hope everyone has a phenomenal October.
What are you looking forward too this fall?
I'd love to know!

Steal my look...an introduction to "Baking".

Hello!
I hope everyone had a fantastic long, Labor day weekend. Here in Plymouth, the weather was picture perfect.
I know that everyone just loves fall. I do too, but for me, summer is and will always be my number one!
Anyway, last week, my friend Diane and I went out for a nice dinner. (If you are ever in Plymouth, MA be sure to go to Martini's on Main Street. SUCH AMAZING FOOD). We snapped a picture, and I uploaded it to my Instagram (SheShe830).  Well, color me flattered, because I had 7 people ask "How did you do that under your eyes?' Or "What Highlighter is that?"
so, I figured, I might pop on here and give you the info.
Everything that i have on my face, is in this picture here....

As you can see, there was actually no highlighter used. How I did the light under my eyes is through a process called "Baking". Baking is a technique that goes back to the olden days. It was once just considered for use as "stage makeup". However, it has become mainstream recently.  Baking is a way to conceal any dark circles you may have. It is a SUPER powerful way to do this. (The old analogy of bring a gun to a knife fight comes to mind).
It will keep your concealer from fading or cracking. Also, if you tend to get oily, this is your best way of fighting that.
There are are few things to keep in mind.

  • If you want to do this, it is a full makeup look. You'll also need to do foundation, contour and blush in the bare minimum.
  • You absolutely have to do a gradient fade with the concealer as you get further away from your eyes. Otherwise, it will end up looking as if you are wearing a Zorro mask, that is just not a good look.
  • You have to set aside at least 25 minutes for this.
There are countless YouTube tutorials by actual makeup artists who can give you a step by step on how to do this properly.

In a nutshell though, this is what you do...

  1. Apply your foundation
  2. With a concealer lighter than your skin, "Highlight" anything your want ( In the photo , I did under my eyes, down my nose and the space on my forehead right above my nose.)
  3. With a wet beauty blended, cover the concealer in the thickest coat of loose powder. Literally, you want to be caking this powder on.
  4. Let it rest, untouched for 20-25 minutes ( I did my eye shadow/lashes at this point).
  5. After 20-25 minutes, use an extra large, clean powder brush to dust the powder off of your face.
That's it! Once you've done that, your concealer is literally baked on.

If anyone else gives this a try, send me a pic or tag me, I'd love to see!

The most expensive items in my beauty arsenal

Hello there. Can you believe we are now in the final three days of August? I cant. 😞
I know my husband will be happy when the hot weather is gone, not me though.
Anyhow, last month I did a post which showed the 5 least expensive beauty products that I use on a regular basis. In the time since then, I've had 5 or 6 people ask "Well, what are the most expensive things in your collection?" At first, I didn't want to do this post. I didn't want it to come across as "Look at my luxury items, aren't you envious?"  However, after sleeping on it, I can see the value in doing this post. Some of these things really are worth their cost. If you have that assurance from a friend before you buy something that costs a pretty penny, you might feel more confident in making the purchase.
However, not all the glitters is gold. there are a couple of things on here that were absolutely NOT worth it. If I can save you from wasting your money like I did, then its worth it.
In fact, lets get the duds out of the way. We'll start with them.

Promise Intensive Hair Treatment by Uniqkka      $85.00
                                       Promise Intensive Treatment by Uniqkka
The best thing I can say about this deep conditioning mask is "meh". It's certainly not bad in any way. It does condition your hair. However, it in no way preforms so well as to justify the price.
Kerastase's deep conditioner is considered the gold standard by many stylists. It cost $20.00 less than this.
My personal #producthero deep conditioner is by Moroccan Oil. It costs $45 dollars LESS  and blows this one out of the water.

Tom Ford Eye Quad in "Nude Dip"   $88.00
                                                            Tom Ford Eye Quad
I gave this one away, donated it to a women's shelter. I do question if I just bought the "wrong" quad. All of the other ones are so highly rated on Sephora's website. I truly found this one to be no better than say the Wet and Wild Egg shell palette which costs $2.99.  As in $84.99 less than this.

                                                 Dior Air Flash Foundation   $62.00
                                                     Dior Air Flash Foundation
I'll never, ever be without this stuff. This foundation is the tool for regular folks like us to achieve that perfect, airbrushed look that we always see on the Hollywood folks.
With this, you can have a sheer or as full coverage look. You decide the coverage level you'll have by how much you spray on. Unlike other foundations, it doesn't appear as if you've put several layers of it on.

Orbie Super Shine  Moisturizing Cream   $52.00
                                              Orbie Super Shine Moisturizing Cream
This stuff is the secret to salon perfection blowouts. I have a LOT of hair. A ridiculous amount of hair. My hair takes a very long time to dry and is prone to frizz. I do my fair share of heat styling as well. This stuff is a remedy to all of it. The scent is down right intoxicating. If I could buy it as a perfume, I would. Even though this costs $52.00, you only need the tiniest amount each time. I'm talking a dollop the size of a dime. One tube lasts me 4-5 months.

                                                    Viseart Neutral Matte Palette   $80.00
                                                     Viseart Neutral Matte Palette
If I could only have one item in my beauty collect from now on into forever, this is what I'd choose.
This is literally everything I'd hope for an eye shadow palette. The colors last all day. Every shade in this palette is of the highest quality. Its SO blend-able. You could have 0 makeup application skills and still knock it out of the park if this is what you were working with.
The funny thing is...I almost never bought this. My hubby and I were on vacation. We'd had a wine filled dinner and I was tipsy. We had gone back to the hotel (We walked! Drunk drivers SUCK).
Anyhow, I stopped in at the apothecary-esq store to buy a bath bomb. Of course, makeup is the shiny object that I cant NOT look at. I saw this palette and said "Charge it to my room!" (Sorry, Honey!) 😙
In a few weeks...we'll be back there...I might just recreate that moment with one of their other palettes!

So, there you have it. What are your splurge products that are absolutely worth it?

The least expensive products in my beauty arsenal

Hello! Happy Friday! If I've said it once, I've said it a million times... "What's better the a summer Friday!?"

So, last night I got to thinking about the products that I use on a regular basis. My "product heroes" as I often refer to them. Admittedly, I have a penchant for liking higher end products when it comes to cosmetics/beauty. However, a few of the items that I rely most heavily on, are down right cheap.
I thought it might be interesting to list those out with the reasons as to why I love them. As always, I'll include links (at the bottom) and double as always... I make nothing off of you or your clicks. I'm not looking to profit off my friends!

Clinique's  Extra Mild Liquid Facial Soap   $17.50

When you see a youtuber or blogger going on an on about how you "JUST HAVE TO BUY THIS $80.00 FACIAL WASH THAT THEY USE!!" , run! Also, you can be sure they are just trying to get your $$. Regardless of what they tell you, no facial cleanser is going to fight wrinkles,  sun spots, fine lines, etc, etc. A facial cleanser is simply not on your skin long enough to do any such thing. Talk to any dermatologist, they will tell you to get a cleanser that is gentle and non irritating, and to invest the
bulk of your skin care money into serums and creams.
Personally, I've been using this cleanser since I was 14. I stared with it in bar form and moved into the liquid form when I stared using a Clarisonic brush.

Plus White 5 Minute Whitening Gel  $5.99

Where do I even begin with this one??  First, this stuff works better than any "White strips". Like...WAY better.
This stuff , dare I say...has made my teeth more white than the professional whitening in the dentists office EVER has.
White Strips will run you around $50.00. In office whitening procedures at the dentist are typically between $200-$500. This tube of $6.00 gel does are more effective job, hands down. You can put it onto a tooth brush and brush it right onto your teeth. I opted to buy inexpensive, customizable trays on Amazon.
When I first started using this, I'd do it 4X a week for 20 minutes at a time ( I drink coffee and red wine!).
Now, my teeth are about as I want them. Therefore, I'll use this once or twice a week for 5 minutes, just for maintaining my teeth's color.

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder  $6.00

Those of you who follow me on Instagram  (@sheshe830) recently saw me talk about this. This little ditty has blown me AWAY. I've compared this to my KatVonD, Tarte and Laura Mercier powders...I love them all, but I'd pick this one over any of them. This sets your make up perfectly, yet does not look like you have powder on. If you had covered the label, I'd of guessed that this was a Chanel product.

Target Eye Make Up Remover $2.50
If you wear any eye make up, go get this. The bottle says that it compares to Neutrogena Eye Makeup  remover.... As "Dwight" from "The Office" would say.... FALSE!
The Neutrogena eye makeup remover cannot hold a candle to this.  However, I find it to be a spot on dupe for Lancome's Bi-Facil eye make remover. That stiff costs $28.00 and is worth it. If you can find an eye make up remover that can cut through waterproof mascara, gel liner and still be gentle enough to NOT hurt your eyes, its worth it. When you can find one that does all of that for under $3.00, you know you've scored big time!

L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara     $5.99

I've already talked about this baby in depth in my "Duping Divas"  ( you can read that here....Duping Divas )
Without repeating myself, I'll say this...If I could only own one mascara, it would be this. This out preforms all of the others that I've ever used. The only thing I'd recommend though , is to be sure to buy the WATERPROOF version. For whatever reason, I find the formula of the not waterproof version to be just meh, where the water proof one is a rock star!

Well that's it for now. If anyone out there knows of any other inexpensive beauty finds, PLEASE comment on this post with them! We could ALL help each other out!

Have a lovely weekend!!

Ligurian Pesto

Hi Everyone!
Let me say right out of the gate, no I'm not trying to make this a "cooking blog". I know that the majority of you who come here do so because you are a fellow makeup/fashion lover.

The reason for this post is that whenever I make pesto, I'll get asked how to do it. I figured, doing a post where I can just share the link is easier than writing it out repeatedly.

Pesto is amazing and its amazingly simple to make. You don't need your oven or your stove. You'll likely want to use a food processor or blender, yet even those things are not necessary.

Ligurian pesto originated in Liguria, Italy. It was prepared with a mortar and pastel...hence the name.
You might think that you do not like pesto. My husband used to think that. He'd only had store bought pesto. While you can buy a decent okay jarred marinara sauce, the same cannot be said for pesto. Trust me, I've tried. Thankfully, due to the ease of preparing it, you don't have any reason to buy it.

Let's start with your ingredients:

  • 2 Bunches of Fresh Basil
  • 1/3 C freshly Grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese
  • 1/3 C Freshly Grated Pecorino Cheese
  • 1/4 C Pine Nuts
  • 1/2 C Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic, coarsely chopped

Directions:
In a food processor, pulse basil and garlic. Add in both cheeses, pulse more. Add in pine nuts and continue to pulse. Lastly, add in the olive oil.  Process until you have a thick, smooth green (heavenly) paste.

Toss it right onto hot pasta, or put into jars and refrigerate. You guys, this is SO good and it really is THAT simple!

If you are making this for someone else , or a party... check if your guest has any food allergies. If someone is allergic to pine nuts, walnuts can be used in their place.

Grown in our yard, by my awesome hubby.

When it looks like this, you have it exactly how you want it.

And this is how you make everyone's day, give them a jar of this perfection!!!
