Manifesting Spring

February 26, 2021 in ,

Happy Friday, Mes Amies!

It is mild here in costal Massachusetts. By mild, I mean its in the mid 40's. For new England in February, that is unseasonably warm.

It got me realizing that I'm unintentionally manifesting spring. What do I mean by that?

Well, here its far too cold to be wearing any cute spring clothes. My southern girls....you are envied!

Still though, I'm "all set" with all of my heavy, winter clothes. I noticed that there are little ways I'm trying to bring spring in.  These are the little signals that I'm sending out to the universe to let it know that I am ready for more sunshine, chirping birds and flowers in bloom.

Wearing a lighter, floral perfume

Today, for the first time in a while I put on my Chanel 19 perfume. This is so light and airy. Such a nice change of pace from the heavier winter fragrances.

Treat yourself to a mid-day iced coffee.
My morning coffee has to be hot coffee regardless of season or weather. But, often I treat myself to an iced coffee on warm spring and summer afternoons. Having one now, puts me in a spring state of mind.

Get a light pink mani and or pedi
I was at the nail salon this week. While I did opt for an eggplant shade on my fingers. I went with a baby pink color for my toes. It leaves me thinking about wearing sandals.

Go for a LIGHT faux tan
I did it, I broke down and applied applied the lightest faux tan this week.
I put on one coat of Tan - Luxe's "The gradual". It is a light, gradual tanner. Me with one coat of this, is still lighter that most people's base color. Still though, it was so nice to see my complexion "warmed up a bit.

This is how I'm trying to manifest spring into reality. I'm so ready for the tress to bud, rainy April days and the first blooms of May.

What about you?

Life's Lessons So Far

February 24, 2021 in

Photo by my friend Donna. Used with her permission.

Happy humpdays, Mes Amies!
This was yet another week without a Monday post. I'm not slacking. It seems as if Mac's ios has blocked the blogger platform? I don't know why, but its problematic.  When my registration is up this summer, I might switch hosting platforms-stay tuned.

Here we are today, doing a "Words Wednesday" post. Today, I'm sharing some the life lessons that I have learned so far. God willing, there are many years ahead and many more lessons to be learned so far. Some of these are as serious as a heart attack. Some are silly & fun. This is what I've got for you so far.

ALWAYS use Listerine
Nobody thinks that they have bad breath. However, LOTS of people do. Use Listerine 2X/Day

Do Not Treat Your House Like A Piggy Bank
Some folks pull money out of their house like a little kid pulls dollar bills out of their piggy bank. I've seen people take out home equity loans or lines of credit for things like buying a new car or going on vacation. This is not "making your money work for you." This is putting your home at serious risk.  They new car isn't going to seem so great when you have to put a "for sale" sign on your law. Housing prices go up and go down. Don't find yourself underwater.

When you eat like crap, you feel like crap
You can't get around this. Sadly, so many countless people have that "feeling like crap" as their baseline. They eat process junk food so often that their bodies just don't know what it feels like to eat a diet of leafy greens and lean proteins.
Source: Fruitful Day

Live below your means
When you do this, it takes away 50-75 of the stresses in life.

Your appearance does matter
If you show up looking like an unmade bed, you are going to be treated differently than someone who has brushed their hair and dressed in unwrinkled clothing.

Your Phone is for your benefit, not everyone else
I can remember being younger and the landline (it was the early '00's) in my bedroom ringing. My mother , almost panicked was shouting to me " YOUR PHONE IS RINGING!!!!!!!".  My response? "ummm hmm"  Her "ARE YOU GOING TO GET IT!!??"  Me "nope."
Flash forward to modern days- My hubby almost sprinting into the room with my cell because he was afraid I was going to miss whatever text was coming in.  While I appreciated both his and my mom's efforts, in both those cases I deliberately separated myself from my phone.  Use your phone for your convenience, not for it to be your tether.

You cannot maintain a friendship with someone who wants your life.
No explanation necessary.

Never leave the house with unpainted toe nails

Always, always wear sunscreen
Even if you are not concerned about skin cancer. (You should be) UV rays age you like nothing else.

Have a plan
Whether it be big or small, have a plan. Each Sunday, I plan out every dinner we are having that week (my lunch also.) Every night, I plan out my next day's outfit.
When you have a plan, stress & chaos goes away.

Get enough sleep
If you don't, it shows.

Picjumbo

Buy nice, not twice
If you are 25+, its time to get rid of the cheap, "fast Fashion", cheaply made items and garments that you might own.
Stores like "Forever 21" , "H&M" etc are for kids. Once you have the means to do better, do so.

Do not sacrifice yourself to accommodate others
Neighbor is nagging you to let her host a "Party" at your house, but you don't support MLM's? You tell her "NO".  Sister making jokes that you don't like? You don't "put up with it". You tell her its not okay.

Drink More Water
Really. Aim for a gallon a day.

Whenever you can, have fresh flowers in your home.

Okay, that's what I got.
What about you? What are your best life's lessons that you adhere to?

The Friday Five

February 19, 2021 in

Hi Mes Amies, Happy Friday.

We are in the midst of another snow fall here. Decoy loves it, but I’m ready for Spring. Which , by the way, the first day o spring is in 28 days!

Wednesday, my mom and I were in Boston. The skyscapers make legitimate wind tunnels. It was SO COLD.  I actually stopped to buy a new hat.

Anyhow, Its been a minute or two since we did a Friday Five. I really liked the questions this week, so lets do this!

 1)  What fictional character would you like to sit down and have dinner with, and why?

Hmmmm, Interesting question. Probably Nick Caraway from “The Great Gatsby”. I’d love to hear all about Daisey , Gatsby and the 1920’s.

2) What three famous people would you like to invite to a small party you're throwing, and why?

Dr. Martin Luther King, Kevin Aucoin and Farrah Fawcett. I respect and admire each of them. Its completely different reasons for why I admire each of them though.

3) What historical figure do you wish you could have met?

Admiral Chester Nimitz . The battle of Midway was the turning point of WWII. The steely nerve that this man had to of had in order for this to happen is beyond what I can fathom.

4) What actor would you like to have participate in your next games night?

Steve Carrell, no explanation necessary.

5) If you could have any band perform at your next birthday party, which band would it be?

The original Beach Boys. Mike, Brian, Dennis, Al & Carl. My favorite band of all time.

As always, I’d love to hear your answers. Stay safe and warm and have a lovely weekend!

XO,

SheShe

Getting Ready To Get Ready

February 17, 2021 in

                                             Source: PicJumbo

Hello, Mes Amies!
Today, I'm on my way back into Boston. The vaccine that I was part of the clinical trials for is going for immediate FDA approval. Read About That Here )

I'm brining this up because as vaccines for covid become more widely available, life is so much closer to coming back to normal.

It got me thinking about the joy that I used to find in  "Getting Ready". Whether it was sitting at the vanity in the bedroom of the house that I grew up in, Clinique products all over the place as I was filled with giddy anticipation about whatever dance or pep rally in the gym I was going off too that night . Or the absolute butterflies that filled me when I'd be trying to keep a hand steady enough to apply liquid eyeliner and contour while anxiously awaiting the ring of my door bell. The person on the other side being the man who is now my husband.  "Getting ready" has always been as almost as important as the night out its self.

In 2020, it was taken away from us. I know, FAR more important things were lost.  Many of us, tried our best to keep the routine.  I know that there were plenty of times that I "put my face on" for a Target & Starbucks run. Its not the same though.

I have spent so much time reflecting on all of the serious things that developed or were lost because of this awful plague. The gravity of it all is not lost on me. However, today I'm not going letting my mind go there.
Today, I'm thinking about that day in the (hopefully) VERY near future where I have a brand new outfit laid out as I enjoy putting my makeup on and doing my hair as I prepare for a night out.

Hey loves!

I'm so sorry I wasn't here yesterday.

I was busy buying a brand new car.

I'm the proud new owner of this brand, spanking new GMC Terrain.

I'm SO happy.

We'll be back to normal business here tomorrow !

Yahoo, its Friday!!!!

Its also almost Valentine's Day!!  I hope that you have a lovely Valentine's Day however it is you celebrate it.

Even when I was single, I loved Valentine's Day. Why? Because it meant that the half way point of winter had already passed.  Yes, by Valentine's Day we are closer to the 1st day of spring than we are the 1st day of winter.

That brings us to today's post.

We are in the thick of winter. We've lived for months now in the cold. We've spent so much time in heated buildings. For most of us, we are fighting dry, dull flakey skin. If you are as sick of that as I am, today's post is for you.

This routine works very well for me. I do this about once a week and it has made all the difference.

The first thing I do is dry brush all over before going into the shower.  I've talked before about the many benefits of dry brushing. ( Read That Here )

I'll turn up the heat in my bathroom ( because you are in your birthday suit!) and spend about 10 minutes dry brushing.

Once I finish dry brushing, I hop into the shower.

This is when I use the best exfoliator that I've ever tired.

Dove's Exfoliating Body Scrub is the best that I've ever used. Its not just me who feels this way. On Target's webpage it has over 17,000 Five Star reviews.  Aside from how well it exfoliates, it also leaves your skin SO SOFT.

After getting out of the shower, I follow up with my secret weapon.....Retinol body lotion.
Retinol causes skin turn over to happen more quickly. Meaning dead skin cells do not get to stick around long enough to be dull and flakey.

If you find that your elbows and knees are particularly dry and ashy, you might need one other step.  (been there!) For me, Cliniqiue's 7-Day Scrub is the best for this.

Aside from helping you to not look winter dull, these steps are always what you should do if you'll be sunless tanning. Removing dead, dry skin will insure an even , streak free tan.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend that is filled with LOVE!

SheShe

February Fashion Finds

February 10, 2021 in

Hi! Happy Mid-week!!

Did any one try the stuffed eggplant that I shared yesterday? Good Stuff.

So, I bought myself a new outfit recently. I don't typically do that. Usually, I purchase individual pieces and then put them together with pieces that I already own.

Maybe its the prolonged home confinement, but I just had the urge to get an entire new outfit. Its no where near time to bring out the spring clothes, but I was tired of the same old, same old.

Everything here is from Nordstrom. (Big shock, I know)

There you have it, its cute huh? Do I have anywhere (aside from work) to wear it? Well no. However, gawd willing, my hubby will be vaccinated sooner than later. Once that happens, its ON 😃.

I hope that you are having a great week!

Arancini Stuffed Eggplant

February 09, 2021 in

Yikes!

We are a day behind here. Sorry, Mes Amies. We had our first sizable snow of the season here on Sunday. That sort of threw a monkey wrench into the works.

Although, I think that today’s post will certainly make up for it. Today, I’m sharing with you one of the meals that my hubby requests most.

Risotto stuffed eggplant. Friends this is SO good.

One thing I love about this recipe is that you can make it vegetarian. You can make some of them with meat, some without all in the same batch. My hubby loves it with the sweet Italian sausage. I prefer mine without it. I can make us both what we like all in one meal.

Also, this freezes incredibly well. I double the batch for the very reason of making a freezer meal with half of it.

If you do decide to do this, you’ll want to cook it from frozen in a 400 degree oven for 1 hour.

I’m not going to go into detail as how to make risotto or marinara sauce in this post. Those are both considerably basic recipes that most folks already have a preferred method of preparing. Also, not that I'd encourage using premade risotto or marinara sauce. However, if you need to make this into a quick & easy week night meal, that's how to do it.

As always…. No long, drawn out story! On to the recipe!!

Ingredients:

-2 Full size eggplants or 6 Italian Eggplants

-4 TBS of Olive Oil

-2 Cups of cooked Risotto

- 1.5 Cups of marinara sauce

-1 Cup of shredded mozzarella

- 1 TSP dried basil

-1/4 C grated Parmesan Cheese

-2 TBS Panko Bread Crumbs

- Salt & Pepper to Flavor

-3/4 cooked, ground sweet Italian sausage (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 400 °F. Cut the eggplants lengthwise in half. Use a paring knife to remove most of the pulp, turning the eggplants into a bowl shape. Cube half of the pulp and set aside.

Place eggplants on a parchment lined, rimed baling sheet. Baste each eggplant with olive oil. Top with a dash of salt. Place in over for 40 minutes.

While the eggplant is in the over, mix together cooked risotto, marinara, basil, reserved eggplant pulp, mozzarella cheese and sausage if you are including it.

Fill the eggplants with the risotto mixture, top with parmesan cheese and Panko Crumbs. (If freezing, this is your last step) and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Enjoy!!

The Most Comfortable Boots Ever

February 05, 2021 in

Hip Hip Hooray, it's Friday!!  Its also my brother Sean's birthday, Happy Birthday, Sean!

I fully admit that I feel pangs of envy when I see bloggers who hail from down south when they start showing their spring fashions this time of year. In the year 2008, I was in the Buckhead section of Atlanta for work for the entirety of both February & March. It was positively glorious. It averaged between 70-80 degrees. The grass was green and the dogwoods were in full bloom.   I remember thinking "Oh, so THIS is spring!!"

Now, I'm back in Massachusetts. February & March mean biting cold, snow , ice and no sandals or 70 degree days anywhere to be seen.

Such is life, play the hand that you dealt.   Here in New England, that means another 2 months or so of cold weather dressing.

Which brings us to today's post. I've discovered the most comfortable and simultaneously stylish boots, ever.

They are Pikolinos Find Them Here

I first discovered this brand during Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale this past summer. I saw a pair that I loved (bottom right in photo). The price was right, so I decided to give them a try. Because the Anniversary sale is in the summer, I sort of forgot that I had these. I didn't wear them for the first time until the end of November. The first time I put them on though, I was in love. I cannot stress how comfortable they are. I had them on all day. They felt as if they had already been perfectly "broken in".  I didn't even change into sneakers prior to taking Decoy for his walk.

They are made from supple, genuine leather. The inner lining is also leather with a very cushioned insole.

After Christmas, I decided to put one of the Nordstrom gift cards that I received toward another pair (top right). Once again, Pikolinos did not disappoint. I even said to my husband " I have a feeling that I'll still be wearing these boots 5-10 years from now."  They really are that well made.

I'm happy to see that this brand also makes sandals. I'll be trying those as well. Even if its not for another 2-3 months. 😉

Have a beautiful weekend, babes.

Get This Palette...Now!

February 03, 2021 in

Friends, we have no time for introductions or chit-chat at the beginning of this post.

Why? Because you need to get to your local Sephora or Ulta NOW!

Okay, perhaps I'm being dramatic for effect here. But you guys....this is my new favorite palette of all time.

Why?

The colors are SO versatile and the formula is so blendable.  If you are new to makeup, or just not super comfortable with your application skills, this is a failsafe product.

The colors will look good on every complexion. I'm 41, when I see the neon palettes with glaring glittery shades, I know that those are not for me. However, this is! Its perfect for the day at work, or for a date night out.

Its a large palette. You get your money's ($45) worth and then some.

Its LONG wearing. Yesterday, I put it on at 5:30 am. I snapped this picture right before I left work at the end of the day.

Remember, this isn't an income generating blog. Read- I'm not trying to get you to buy this so that I get a commission.
I just think this baby is such a game changer and you deserve to have it.

    XO,

SheShe

Happy Monday and Happy February. We a just chugging along through winter here.

Today I am going to share some new (to me) makeup that I am LOVING. Everything here I have and LOVE. Everything here I highly recommend.

First up is Fenty's Pro Filt'r Powder Find It Here

Once you are over 30, you REALLY need to dial back the loose powder. It settles into fine lines and makes them much more pronounced.

Well, this powder does the exact opposite. It does in real life what a filter does for your photos.

Next up is my new favorite eye palette..

Tarte's Juicy Amazonian Clay Palette Find It Here

I love, love, love Tarte's eye palettes. The formula is always spot on and they are always so blendable. This new release is just as fantastic as the palettes that it comes after. These colors are flattering on pretty much everyone.

Moving right along,

We have the Jet Lag Mask by Summer Friday's Find It Here

Girl, this is a new HG product for me. My "dry as an alligator" skin soaks it right up. I put it on before bed and its still working in the morning.

Next on this list is Color Pop's  Hyaluronic Concealer  Find it Here

If you told me that my favorite concealer ever would cost less than $10.00 , I'd never of believed you, but its true. This covers my dark circles, doesn't crease or crape and comes with one of the most inclusive shade ranges that I've seen.

Lastly,

We started with Fenty and we're ending today with Fenty.

Fenty's Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara    Find It Here

The name tells you everything that it does. The name doesn't lie either. It does everything that it claims. Rhianna did not mess around when she created her line.

So, there you have it babes. Happy week to you all.
