Dyson Airwrap Review

November 27, 2020 in

Happy Thanksgiving, Mes Amies!

Today is black Friday with lots and lots of sales.

With that in mind, I thought today would be a good day to give you a fair and honest review of The Dyson Air Wrap.

This is a review by someone who A) Purchased this with their own money and B) Is not trying to sell you anything or earn "commissions" from your shopping.

First things first, the case and all its contence weigh precisely 587 pounds. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but its heavy as all heck. The case is sturdy as can be.

So far, I have used the round brush attachment, the flat brush attachment and the all intriguing airwarp attachment.

The flat brush attachment helped me to achieve flat iron like sleekness.

The round brush attachment is my favorite so far.

The air wrap attachment is really so innovative. It sets your hair so perfectly. ITs unlike any other curling iron in this aspect. Your curls will NOT fall flat.

Also, it gets very warm, but not hot. You can put your hand on it while its at its highest setting. It wont burn you. If you tried that with a regular curling iron, you'd have blisters.

What I do not like is the size of the airwrap barrels. They are small and produce a tight "mom curl".

The largest one is capable of making a great, beachy wave, you just need to know how to manipulate it.

However, if Dyson eventually makes a wider barrel attachment, I will buy it.

All in all, I am loving this airwrap. No buyers remorse.

I'll do another review/ update in a few more weeks.

Have a fabulous Friday !

SheShe

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Friends!

It would be blasphemy if I didn't pop on here to send you Thanksgiving from Plymouth, MA where it all began.

Be safe today, but give and receive as much love as you can.

November Needs & Wants

November 25, 2020 in ,

Hello, Mes Amies!

How are you today? This post is about the purchases that I bought this month that I'm absolutely loving.

These are the things that I've acquired and am loving so much that I think that you may love them as well.

Since I purchased these things, two of them have gone on major sale. While I'm going to go for price adjustments, you can just score the big deal from the go.

Leith Fringe Sweater $59.00              Find it Here

I LOVE this sweater. I've only worn it once so far, but when I did I got 3 compliments on it.
Its roomy and soft. Plus, it has a super cool vibe.

Living Proof Blowout / Styling Cream   $28.00/each  Find Them Here

I know, I know... I said before I was done with straightening my hair. Its a girl's prerogative to change her mind. I like mixing it up.
Living proof is one of my favorite brands. These two products reinforced that for me.  Bouncy, shiny , frizz free hair!!

Ralph Lauren Quilted Jacket  $100.00              Find It Here

This is now 60% off !! I LOVE this coat. I needed a medium weight jacket for this time of year.
Its odd, growing up September and October were autumn month with autumn weather here where I live. Now, September might as well be August, October feels like September. November used to be a winter month. Now, November is flat out a fall month.
This coat is warm enough for chilly weather, but not too heavy. I'll be wearing this again non stop in the spring.

Sorel Joan of The Artic Shearling Wedge    $250.00 (check for sales )Find them Here

Did I need these? No. Did I spend two weeks talking myself out of these? Yes. Did I hold my resolve? Nope. Am I glad that I caved? Oh heck YES.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots. They are warm and cozy, yet adorable. I can wear them for hours on end comfortably.

Kate Sommerville  Exfoliating Treatment $85.00-$175.00   Find It Here

Whoa. Game changer alert. I bought this just hoping for a new exfoliator. I was blown away by how much it has reduced the size of my pores. After 2 weeks, I saw that it has made those under-eye "resting lines" all buy disappear. I'm "shook". Seriously though, this has earned a permeant spot in my arsenal.

Okay, that wraps things up for today.
I hope that I can continue to bring these monthly roundup posts  your way. I have touched on this before, I have dramatically cut down on my shopping. I already have FAR too much.
However, as long as I do have purchases worthwhile of sharing with you, I'll continue to do so.  💜

SheShe

Happy Monday, Mes Amies!
Are you all set for Thanksgiving?

So, today I wanted to talk makeup with you. Surprise, surprise.
I've never tried hide the fact that I LOVE high end cosmetics. Pat McGrath, MAC, Dr. Dennis Goss, Chanel...they all thrill me.

Still though, there are somethings that are actually better at the drug store.  Today, I wanted to share them with you!

First off, Real Techniques Makeup Brushes

I have purchased so many expensive brushes over the years. These blow them all away. They are softer, last longer and blend better than anything else.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

We've all heard it a million times "Once you are over 30 , avoid under eye concealer" It settles into each and every fine line and makes them appear 10X larger than they actually are.
For some of us (me), this isn't an option. Fair skin makes those dark under-eye circles even more pronounced.
Enter in this magic potion. Its as much brightener as it is concealer. No settling into lines. Just lighting and brightening .

NYX Vinyl Liner

For years and years, I swore by Kat Von D's Tattoo liner. Then , somethings came out that made me not want to support that brand.
I stumbled upon this gem by NYX. Well, wouldn't you know, its better than the fancy one. Also, it costs twenty dollars LESS!

Maybelline Snapscara

I know, I know...this is the 3rd time that I have mentioned this mascara on this blogette.
Its THAT good though. This easily beats out Dior Show, Lancome, IT Cosmetics and all the others.

Ardell Naked Lashes

Do you love the look of lash extensions, but know that they just aren't for you?
If so, you'll LOVE these.
I tried lash extensions before. I hated them. I hated how damaging they were to my own lashes, I hated how I couldn't use my favorite makeup remover, I really hated what they looked like when they needed to be filled.
These give you the lovely look of brand new, fresh extensions, but without any of the negatives.

Maybelline Master Prime

This guy is a total dupe for Smash Box's primers. Minimize pores, combat redness, hydrate, this line has a primer for nearly all complexion concerns.

NYX Brow Gel

Before I had my brows microbladed, I tried EVERY brow product under the sun.
This one is the cream that rose to the top.
It was easy to apply, stayed on all day and looked natural.
Even though my brows are now semi-permanent, I still cannot bring myself to part with this.

Are there any drug store products that you prefer over the more expensive products?
If so, do tell!

SheShe

Let The Holiday Season Begin!

November 20, 2020 in

Happy Friday, Mes Amies!

How was this week for you guys?

To me, the holiday season begins tomorrows!

My hubby will be setting up ALL of our outdoor decorations tomorrow. ( We are the house that has cars stopping out front to look at all of the lights.)

Also, we'll be putting up our trees tomorrow.

I know that there are some people who will chime in "But, what about Thanksgiving!?"

To them, I say this. Its quite possible to enjoy Thanksgiving when there is a beautiful Christmas tree glowing from the other room. There is a reason Thanksgiving through  New Years is called "The holiday season."

On Sunday, I'm going to start getting all of the doughs made for my Christmas cookies. I do a batch or two per week starting around now and just put them into my large freezer in the basement. This way, as Christmas draws near, I just need to thaw out the dough and get baking.

What about you? Are you just focused on Thanksgiving this week? Or do you see Christmas/Hanukkah as being right on the horizon as well?

SheShe

Look Good in Holiday Photos

November 18, 2020 in

                                                           Source: Picjumbo

Happy midweek, Mes Amies.

The holiday season is obviously looking quite different this year. Somethings will remind the same through. One of those things is that typically ,there area lot of photos taken this time of year. Whether it be professional pictures for a family card, or Instagram stories from socially distanced holiday gatherings. You likely will be photographed more this time of year than any other season.

With that said, there are things you can do to make sure you look your absolute best in these photos. That is what we are here to discuss today.

-          Do not wear foundation with an SPF in it.

As responsible adults, we've been trained to wear SPF every day to protect our skin from harmful UV rays and to keep it looking youthful and wrinkle-free. Somewhere along the line, SPF-infused makeup became the norm, which is typically a very good thing. However, this NOT a good thing when it comes to photography.

The ingredients used to protect our skin from the sun, such as the ones in your favorite foundation are very good at reflecting light. In fact, that is their whole purpose. Therefore, when these products are photographed with a camera flash, they reflect the incoming aggressor and unleash a whole lot of trouble. Namely, SPF flashback.  It’s NOT a good look. That is where that washed out white face look comes from.

Keep an SPF free foundation in your arsenal for times like this.

-          Wear false eyelashes

Even if the fake lash thing is so not you, wear them for photos. In pictures, false lashes do not look like false lashes. In most photography, natural eyelashes do not even show up. Putting on a pair of falsies makes your eyes look larger and more open.

-          Wear lipstick, in a berry shade

I’m not a big lipstick person, but I know that it is necessary for pictures.

As for why a berry shade, it is because this color family makes teeth appear whiter.

Obviously, the specific shade which is best for you will depend upon your complexion. However, if you stay in the berry family it will make your teeth appear several shades whiter.

-          Use matte eyeshadows

Shimmer eye shades are lovely. However, they just do not photograph as well as matte shades.

A shadow that only has a slight shimmer on the skin, can and often does look like it’s a full on highlighter once flash photography comes into play.

-          Don’t skimp on blush

I know…I know. This one is tough. Who wants to go off into the world looking like Clowney?

A camera’s flash softens the colors on your skin by about 50%. So, that nice subtle blush application will literally not show in your pictures. You run the risk of looking entirely washed out.  Its okay to slightly heavier with your application this time.

If you have any tips for how you look great in photos, PLEASE share!

Time for Hygge

November 16, 2020 in

Happy Monday, Mes Amies.

I don't know about where you live, but here in Coastal Massachusetts where I am, its now starting to feel and look more like winter than it does fall.

That along with covid still being here has me in lounge wear so much more than ever before.

Lets hunker in for the winter. Lets get some top self cabernet, espresso and 'bad' Hallmark movies. Lets do this.

Here are a few of the things I'm living in and loving.

I had posted these on my IG last week. My DM's blew up asking where I got these. Nordstrom, of course!

These lounge pants are the most comfortable ever. I have 4 pairs of these and wouldn't mind having a couple more. The cotton is SO soft.

We have a three season room. In the winter, I try to utilize it as much as I can in order to have as much unobstructed daylight. Often, I'll put this robe on and go out there to drink my morning coffee.

Another thing that I cannot have too many pairs of. Soft as butter, hence the name. So warm perfect for extra cold evenings.

We've talked about this before. You don't know that you need a cardigan for your pajamas until you have one. Then, you don't know how you ever got by without your pajama cardi.

I'll admit...there have been times that I have gone to bed in this. The morning comes, I thrown on a sports bar and hop right onto our eliptical.  Its cool and comfortable enough for both.

Are you stocking up longue wear or hoping to be back in REAL clothes soon?

Let me know!

SheShe

The Friday Five

November 13, 2020 in

Happy Weekend Eve, Mes Amies.

Was this week gentle on you? I sure hope so.

Next week, we'll be 1/2 through November. Wow.

Around these parts, the leaves have all pretty much come down. We went from looking like fall to it looking like winter.

When I saw that today's Friday Five was about winter, I thought "If the shoe fits..."

As always, I'd love to see your answers too.

1.     1. What are your feelings about winter?

Oh, I am NOT a fan. Nope, not at all.

2. What is your go-to drink in the winter? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)

Lattes and coffee. As for alcohol, a really good Cabernet can help warm me up. I like that.

3. What are your favorite things about the winter?

When its over! Aside from that I love when Christmas lights are up everywhere. I love when we get a random snow day and get to stay in pajamas all day.

4. How do you deal with the wintry blues?

I get as much fresh air and sunlight as possible…the sunlight part is especially hard to do here in the northeast.

5. What are your least favorite things about the winter?

The fear on driving on black ice covered roads, worrying about animals and people who do not have shelter from the elements, how it becomes dark at 4:00 pm, how its dark for nearly 3 hours after I wake up, bone chilling cold, sidewalks that are covered in snow and ice….

Okay, I need to stop. This is going to get me depressed real quick if I don’t stop NOW. Its Friday, its supposed to be fun and happy.

Okay, that's it for today.

You NEED a Sous Vied, Really.

November 11, 2020 in

Hi there, Mes Amies.

How is this week going?

Today, I'm here to tell you why you need a Sous Vied. If you are saying "What the heck are you talking about?", no worries.

The name is far more intimidating than the process. A Sous Vied is a device that cooks by a controlled water bath.

Essentially, you put your item in an air tight bag and then put that bag into a container of water. Nope, Sous Vied cooking is NOT the same as boiling.

What makes  sous vide cooking special is the precise temperature control that is made possible by a specialized sous vide machine. This computer-controlled device warms a water bath to any low temperature you set, and it can keep it there for hours or even days, if necessary or wanted.

You literally cannot over-cook your foods. With sous vide, there's no guess work. If you put a steak in a bath set at 140°, there's no chance that steak will go past that temperature. The steak is cooked to a perfect medium-rare throughout, and that's thanks to the sous vide's secondary function, water circulation. Constantly moving water ensures that there are no hot or cool spots in your pot. Gone are the nerve wracking nights of cooking costly cuts of meat with fingers crossed and baited breath.

Last week, we had company over for dinner. I had a $100.00 + tenderloin roast for our guests. Instead, I set it, then went about my day. I had all the time I needed to focus on making my side dishes.

While, the filet was amazing in the sous vied, where it really shines is with tougher cuts of meat. The meat cooks in its own juices. That makes it so tender. A NY strip steak ends up having the consistency of filet.

What is fantastic is you do not need much to do this. All you need is:

  • A sous vide precision cooking device
  • Packaging for your food, like resealable bags or canning jars
  • A container to hold the water

That's it!
If you have ever dined at a fine restaurant, you have had food prepared with a sous vied.
Up until just a few years ago, these devices cost several thousand dollars. Now, you can get one for $100-$200.  This is the one that I have  I cannot stress how much I love it.

Source: William's Sonoma

Recently, my hubby asked for a prime rib. I made it for him with my sous vied.

He said it was the best he'd ever had.

I keep mentioning meat, however that only scratches the surface of what this can do. Desserts, fish, eggs are all made better with this.

This is a way to make very high end, restaurant quality meals at home with next to no hands on work.

TRY IT, you'll thank me, I promise you that!

SheShe
