Happy new week, Mes Amies.

How are you? Did you have a nice weekend? Saturday was 70+ degrees hair and it was glorious! Plus, it was hair day!

I wanted to have a chat with you all. I feel as if I'm at a cross roads here. When I was sick a couple of weeks back, I was too sick to even pick up my phone. That made it so that I had gone a full week without so much as a scroll through Instagram or Facebook. Guess what? It was great. Even after I was feeling better, I stayed off.

I did log on last Tuesday after the Chauvin verdict. As soon as I had, I immediately regretted it. I saw so much ugliness in my Facebook feed and Immediately logged back out.  I have not logged back in to FB or IG since then.

Guys, I've got to say that I'm enjoying things much, much more this way.

I have not posted any thing along the lines of "I'm taking a break from social media". Honestly, those types of posts come across as such a thirsty, attention seeking behavior, IMO.  When I see one of those types of posts, I imagine the one who posted it feeling validated as the "Are you okay, hon?" , "I'm here if you need me, babe" and "Nooo, I'll miss you!" posts roll in.

The people who I'm closest too, I text with on a regular basis and always have. I don't need social media to keep up with them. Social media was a way to keep up with acquaintances and look at outfit inspiration.

While I want everyone to be thriving, I had to ask myself "Do you care about the day to day doings of my acquaintances?"

The cold, hard truth is that I do not. I know that sounds harsh, but it isn't. I hope everyone is rocking this thing called life. It just is not of any interest to me when people I know at the surface level are up to.

On the flip side of that, I have over 5K followers on Instagram and about 2500 "friends" on Facebook. I don't even know how many of these people I know in real life. Certainly, not all of them, maybe not even 1/2 of them. Strangers do not need to know my day to day doings.

Sadly, sometimes social media can breed ugliness, even for adults.

A few months ago, I had posted a picture of a new pair of Golden Goose sneakers that I bought and was super excited about. A woman who I have not seen in real life since high school said something along the lines of "I think its foolish to spend that much on sneakers, I have better things to do with my money!" I was so tempted to point out that she spends far more than that on hair extensions.

It just reiterates that I'm so much happier not constantly being bombarded with everyone's opinion. I'm just happier not hearing everyone's opinion about politics, vaccines, religion, etc.

Its truly been liberating not dealing with this.

I'm not deleting any accounts. I'm not saying that I'll never use them again. I'm saying for now, I'm enjoying life better without them.

XO,
