What I'll be wearing...Eventually.

Hello....
I'm REALLY starting to get spring fever now.
I just got back from a run. The sun feels stronger now, there was that smell of renewal in the air.
I know Ive got a ways to go here in New England before its actually warm, but let me tell you...When it is, I'll be prepared. :)
Also, I've included links just in case any of this speaks to you too!

I love rompers. Yep, I'm over 30 and I wear rompers...GASP! I love the versatility of a romper. I can wear them to work (within reason...obviously, not the beach style), I can wear them out to dinner with my hubby, or just running around town.

This beauty is the first piece of warm weather clothing that I bought this year. It runs slightly large and looks adorable on!
I highly suggest you getting it too!
You can never go wrong with black. I thought this one here would be perfect!

This dress.....I'm SO excited to wear. It is so pretty and comfortable. Plus, it was a steal!

Sticking with blue stripes...I couldn't resist this top . Depending on the temps this 4th of July, you just might catch me in this with a cute pair of Nantucket red shorts!

I find myself going back and forth between preppy and "glam" as for what is my personal style. I truly love both so much. Depending upon the day and my mood, both feel like "me".
This here falls squarely into the "prep" category. I had been searching for this for a long time. Years ago, I had a boss named Gina. Gina was one of the best dressed women I know. One day, Gina would be in Prada. The next day, she'd be wearing something from "Forever 21". Each day though, she looked equally good. Designer or discount, she wore the clothes, the clothes never wore her.
One day she had this shirt on in navy blue. She found it at a Polo boutique in Oyster Bay, NY.
Ever since that day, I've been on the hunt for something similar . I finally found it. I went or the pink and green option. Preppy Handbook approved!

This is something that I've already worn. I wore it to work with a black pencil skirt. Its something which also clearly looks great with jeans too. I love when a piece is able to be so multi purposed. I really feel as if these pieces are the most penny wise. This also comes in blue.

And seeing this is me... lets finish things off with shoes. These haven't even arrived in yet. I can't wait for them to get here. These I'll be wearing to work and it jeans. I'll wear them now and all through the late fall!

Well, That's it for now. I cannot wait until we are wearing our summer clothes, not just dreaming about them!

Shimmer on!

Thoughts on fashion/shopping

Hi there!

I've had several dear friends tell me recently that I need to post here more often.
I know that I keep saying this, but I'm not a writer. As long as everyone will excuse my lack of correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc , I'm happy to oblige.
Something I thought would be fun to write about now, is sourcing our Spring/Summer wardrobes. We are in the tail end of February now. I have friends in the Carolinas who already have temps in the 80's. Even here in Plymouth, MA its 65 glorious degrees out today.

  • Focus on quality over quality. I used to be the type of person who used to want to aquire as many new articles of clothing as I could. About 2 years ago, I had read somewhere to spend the same amount on clothing as you had originally planned, but to buy 1/3 as many pieces. Once I started implementing this system in place myself, I knew I'd never go back. An example that comes to mind, instead of buying 3 or pairs of flats from DSW, I bought 1 pair of Tory Burch ballet flats. I wear them constantly, the quality exceeds any of their cheaper counterparts by a country mile and, they just flat out look far better than a cheaper made pair. Another example that comes to mind, I recently bought a pair of Paige jeans. They for sure were out of the price range of what I'd normally spend on jeans. However, they are the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned. I'm talking legging comfortable, I don't change out of them when I get home comfortable. Plus, they look so good on. They make it look as if I've been taking barre classes instead of the thinking about taking barre classes.

  •    Utilize websites such as Hautelook and Gilt. Hautelook is my absolute favorite                Haute Look . These are flash sites. They will have a limited amount of inventory from a specific designer. the items will be for sale for a very short window, normally 2 days. when an item is gone, its gone. The amount of the sales will vary, but they are always significant. A few of my favorite finds from there off the top of my head are Gucci sunglasses that retail for $520.00 that I bought for $112, Jack Rogers sandals that retail for $118 that I bought for $54.00 or an Autumn brand cashmere sweater, the retail was $385, I got it for $70.00.

  • This isn't fashion so much, more so beauty. I'm including it here because its part of your overall look. STOCK UP ON ALL OF YOUR COSMETICS during Ulta's 21 days of beauty and Sephora's 20% ( or 15% dependent upon if you are Rouge/VIB/Insider). New launches will come out through out the year that you will want to try, which is normal. Your "ride or die" cosmetics, the stuff you buy over and over...your favorite eyebrow powder, your best highlighter etc... purchase enough of them to last until the sale comes around again.

  • Don't be afraid of sites like Thread-Up. Thread Up is an online consignment store. You can choose to see only things which are brand new with tags, almost new, slight signs of wear and so on. I know full well there is a LOT of stuff on there, too much to sort through. what I suggest doing, is searching by one specific brand at a time. Search just J Crew, then search just Lilly, then just Vineyard Vines, etc. This way, you will see just the brands that you care to buy.

  • Sell the items that you no longer love and adore. Use the proceeds from this, to put towards the new things you are itching to get. Many towns have consignment stores that you can bring your items to. If there isn't anything like that in your area, use Poshmark. You'll recoup some of what you initially spent and you wont have a whole bunch of clutter clogging up your closet.
  • Arrange a trade night. Get a good sized group of your friends together. Don't worry if they don't all know each other. In fact, it may be more of a success if they have not met prior. Everyone brings 5-10 pieces that they no longer wear. Each piece must be in great condition and still current. They whole plan is to trade them off for the things everyone brings. I cannot even tell you how great this is to do right around wedding season. Most folks don't want to wear the same dress to multiple weddings in one year. This is especially true when you know you'll be seeing the same folks at each occasion. However, most folks also don't want to shill out $100-$300 for every wedding they go to.
  • When you do purchase an investment piece, buy one that you will get the most use out of. I love the look of  Louis Vuitton's Damier Azur's white and blue checked pattern. It is SO pretty. However, I live in New England. The amount of time each year that I could carry it, is so short. To me, it would look foolish carrying a bag in that print in January.   If, I were someone who had 20 LV's, I wouldn't think twice about it, but I'm someone who has 2 Louies. I chose to go for the most bang for my buck so to speak. If you are  getting a designer belt, the one in black or brown will serve you so much better than the orange one. If you are getting a Chanel bag , give it to me a black leather will go anywhere. The fuchsia fur will be cliche in mere months.
  • When going into stores like Target, make a list and STICK TO IT.  So many of us are guilty of having a cart full of nothing from Target that we spent $250 on. Doing this is pretty much glamorized. STOP doing this. I stopped doing this back in September. In January, I was able to buy a Canada Goose jacket with what I saved.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    So, that's all I can think of. I'd LOVE to hear tips and tricks that others have!
Keep that shimmer my loves!  XO~S
